It's a pot (potentiometer) / variable resistor symbol but more than likely a L-pad that attenuates the signal when turned down but keeps the amplifier "seeing" the same impedance...

Awesome. I'm partial to old cuda's and challengers. I have a 1970 cuda and love it!
